Loyalty to customer "trumps" loyalty to supplier.
Ps. It has also been our experience, on one prior occasion, that returns for less expensive items are accommodated without difficulty.
It appears the chain saw actually sustained "damage" after our having purchased it.. In consequence of that knowledge - we are offering here & will be offering our apology and payment for the repair service to HMHC on Monday. Our rating for the respect, help, and patience we encountered has been up-graded to three stars.
Second time used - it kept dying.. Wouldn't move the chain.
So from one neighbor to another..
The staff here are very friendly, knowing and helpful. They can usually find what you need quickly, and if they don't carry it they can get it for you. Excellent service, I love this place.
So.. We were refused the return but they took the saw to the back..20 minutes later they had it running again. With a hugh blow of black smoke from the engine!! (Less than 2 hrs on it!) We are stuck with brand new machine spewing black smoke.
Update..
DO NOT BUY major ticket items from this home center!
Very helpful employees and a great selection.
Not so great "policies"!
So to all the other "New-bees" in this awesome, incredible "practically perfect" little town... Remember.. Lowes, Home Depot, Wal-Mart, etc. etc etc... Stand behind their merchandise.. (Even, if only because, it "pays" to do so!)
This place is great for hardware store in Sanpete county!
The generous liberal return policies of large volume retailers.. has been a great blessing to the buying public... But for the smaller merchant - perhaps.. impossible to match? Would they take the loss for defective items-? Or would the Mfg "pay" ? Regardless.. certainly, the individual buyer would not suffer the loss with less consequence than either of them...
Took back to HMHC.. Wanted to return and put refund on a more expensive Huskvarna.
Oh, Yes! I can hear you saying... "We already knew that!" Of course you did!!
That being said.. Our "heads-up" as to the non-return policy (at least as regarding large ticket items..) that we experienced, remains un-changed.
So - no saw = no pet safety fence, (and snow coming on soon) HMHC Suggested we contact Poulan for repair or? Has anyone tried to talk to a human at any manufacturer customer service .. lately? Let alone the waiting for a rep on your cell, and the mailing to and from for repairs that will take as long as they take!!
Nope, not their "policy" Mfg requests retailer not take returns for any reason.
Great employees!
The employees at HMHC are fine people, possessing abundant small town kindness and helpful support even with dis-satisfied, frustrated customers! "They" are not accountable for their company's policies..
Buy a new chain saw here..? Think twice!
Why do all the Big Box retailers accept returns for practically ANY reason? Irregardless of Mfg's "request" not to?
Customer service = BOTTOM LINE PROFITS!!
